Rebecca teaches for Puddle Ducks Nottinghamshire, North Leicestershire and South Yorkshire, and has risen through the ranks to become Head of Teaching for the franchise. Over the next few weeks, we’re going to be sharing with you a week in the life of Rebecca, focusing on one day per week, learning about what she does on a day to day basis and how she spends her down time.
Day Five – Tuesday 23rd January
Day off today so had a day of pulling together my diploma (Level 3 Diploma in Aquatic Teaching - Baby & Pre-school) work as it has got to be with the STA by mid-February. I can’t believe where the last 9 months have gone. The diploma is definitely worth doing as it really opened my eyes to things I didn’t think about before; I’m much more aware of how babies feel/respond to activities and I notice signs that aren’t so obvious and I wouldn’t have noticed before the diploma.
I've got my usual emails to respond to and arrange a couple of observations for teachers which involves diary co-ordination and working out which days/what lessons they teach and then asking mother-in-law if she is around to pick up the boys from school!
My fellow teacher Nikola came round with her boys after school so the kids could play whilst we talked about our roles as Heads of Teaching (we share the responsibilities) and what our focus was for the coming months; preparing for the ATV (Annual Technical Visit), making sure all teachers have completed their lifesaving compliance module, ensuring poolside assistants are up to date with their modules, reviewing pool risk assessments to ensure pools are functioning as they should, checking our teachers database to ensure we have everyone’s correct documentation and it is in date. Also Nik showed me how to work the new teachers database which is so easy once set up – Nik set it up (she’s the techie one!) and although it took her a while to input all the data, it will save time in the long run.
The kids ended up playing together for 4 hours!
