Our Head of Teaching Claire achieves STA Level 3 Diploma in Aquatic Teaching

The qualification, which combines STA’s technical information with Birthlight’s philosophy, has been designed to expand and develop a baby and pre-school swimming teacher’s current technical knowledge and provide them with the latest academic research and theories, which they can then integrate into their swimming lessons.

Covering specific knowledge on child development theories and communication and how these core elements can be incorporated into practical teaching, the programme encourages baby and pre-school swimming teachers to reflect upon their practice and professional development.

Beginning the programme in February this year, with a 4-day intensive classroom training, Claire has followed an intensive study schedule over 9 months that she has completed successfully this November, counting over 370 hours of study and assessment.

“We are extremely proud of Claire, she has worked extremely hard over the last 9 months following the programme, carrying out all the case studies, research and learning as well as managing her role of Head of Teaching here at Puddle Ducks Greater Manchester. We are also delighted to have a member of our team be one of the most highly qualified baby and pre-school teachers in the UK. It not only reinforces our ethos about providing the highest quality swimming lessons, but reflects our desire to support our teachers in their own personal development.” Suzanne Horton, owner Puddle Ducks Greater Manchester.

Head of Teaching, Claire will be sharing her new expertise and knowledge with her team of teachers and working even closer with all the parents to encourage the well-being and enjoyment of the children.

“It has been really hard work, but so worthwhile and rewarding! It really is amazing and opens your eyes to the difference it can make when you are not just concentrating on the technical side to swimming.  Now the focus really is on whether or not the children are happy. I’m excited to be able to use the new techniques and skills with our little swimmers and to work with Gary, Suzanne and the team to share and develop the team.” Claire, Head of Teaching, Puddle Ducks Greater Manchester.
