Puddle Ducks Oxfordshire will be taking part in this year's Marie Curie Swimathon on Saturday 8th April at Kidlington & Gosford Leisure Centre. This is a nationwide swimming challenge that encourages swimmers of all levels to get in the pool and raise money for charitable causes in the UK and across the world.
How will it work...?
- Our swimmers will need to have achieved their 5m award, and be reasonably confident in 'pancakes'.
- They will decide how many lengths of a 25m pool they would like to try to swim - this could be as little as one or two, or a bigger challenge such as ten or even more!
- They will be teamed up with 3-4 other swimmers plus a teacher, and together will swim a total distance of 1.5km (60 lengths).
About Marie Curie
"Swim for Marie Curie this year, the UK’s leading charity for people with any terminal illness. Their nurses and hospices deliver round-the-clock care, vital emotional support, and expert guidance allowing people living with a terminal illness and their families to make the most of the time they have together.
How your donation can make a difference:
£20 pays for a Marie Curie Nurse to look after someone with a terminal illness for one hour, in the comfort of their own home .
£70 pays for someone with a terminal illness to attend day therapy at a Marie Curie Hospice, benefitting from gentle exercise, an art class and more.
£180 pays for a Marie Curie Nurse to look after someone with a terminal illness for a full nine-hour shift, in the comfort of their own home.
£400 pays for someone to stay in a Marie Curie Hospice for 24 hours, so they can receive the hands-on care they need in their final days."
